When I was in the process of detoxifying my cleaning products, laundry detergent was one of the trickier replacements to make. The big brands all have “free & clear” options that don’t have dyes or fragrance, but they still contain plenty of harmful chemicals. There are also several “green” companies that seem to offer better alternatives to the big brands, but I was never fully satisfied with the “lesser evil” chemical cocktail they used in their ingredients. Nothing on the shelves felt like a fully non-toxic laundry detergent.
I had also watched my mom try to make her own detergents using natural household ingredients, but I wasn’t quite ready to go to the lengths of perfecting a recipe that wouldn’t clump, stick to clothes, or leave the clothes dirty altogether.
So I kept on the lookout for someone who had made a product that could show up at my doorstep instead. I can always DIY later! Goodness knows there are plenty of homemade products in my cabinets. It’s nice to shop on occasion instead!
Branch Basics
I’ve been using Branch Basics as my new favorite non-toxic laundry detergent for a few months now and so far so good! My laundry is getting clean and the oxygen boost powder makes for some down and dirty laundry stripping and getting the grime out of particularly dirty loads.
Not only is it a laundry detergent that helps you #tossthetoxins, but the concentrate makes for an multi-purpose cleaner and hand soap. Their starter pack contains the liquid concentrate, oxygen boost powder, and 5 bottles to dilute the concentrate for its multi-purposes! It can be used as an all-purpose cleanser, for heavy duty bathroom jobs, or for streak-free windows. You also get a laundry bottle and foaming pump for hand soap. Any cleaning can be kicked up a notch with the oxygen boost if you need it. I generally use it for pre-treating stains or deep cleaning laundry.
